By now you may have noticed that the first thing you often do for a project when learning a software package or a programming language is to generate a message saying, "Hello, World!"
This actually started back in the 1970's, in an example from a book on C programming. It has since become somewhat of a convention, or tradition, for programming or software instructional books to begin with "Hello, World!" (Learn more
here at Wikipedia.)
It's a geek thing, I suppose, but it is sometimes a rather comforting tradition to see your old friend "Hello, World!" when you are stressed about learning a new language. It also saves a few seconds of having to come up with something else more creative to say - which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. Mainly, people just do it because -- well, it's just what you do.
So, since this is my first post on this blog, here it is:
